What you need for lash lifting
A lash lift is a three-step chemical service, so your kit matters as much as your technique. Step 1 (the lifting or perm lotion) breaks the bonds in the lash, step 2 (the setting or neutralizing lotion) locks in the new shape, and step 3 (nourishing or aftercare) rehydrates. Thioglycolate formulas are the long-standing standard and are widely used for coarse or stubborn lashes; gentler formulas suit fine or previously over-processed lashes where a shorter processing time is safer.
Shields and rods control the curl. Silicone shields produce a softer, lifted-from-the-base look and come in sizes from small to extra large — the shield should sit close to the lash line and cover most of the lash length. Flat and Korean-style shields create a more dramatic upward sweep. Round rods give a curled, mascara-like finish. Round out your setup with a lash lift adhesive or glue, a lifting tool, micro brushes, cling film, and a timer, and always patch test before a first-time client.
- Coarse lashes
- Thioglycolate formula, larger shield, standard processing time.
- Fine lashes
- Gentler formula and a shorter timer to avoid over-processing.
- Dramatic lift
