Why aftercare drives retention
Most retention complaints trace back to what happens between appointments, not to the set itself. Oil, makeup residue, and natural buildup break down adhesive bonds at the base of the extension, so a dedicated lash cleanser or foaming shampoo used daily does more for retention than any single product change in the treatment room. Cleansing also reduces the bacteria and debris that cause irritation and blepharitis-style symptoms, which is the most common reason clients quit lashes altogether.
Send clients home with the basics: a lash-safe cleanser, a soft cleansing brush or applicator, and a spoolie for daily brushing. A bonder or sealer applied at the end of the appointment helps the adhesive cure fully and can improve first-week retention. Coach clients to avoid oil-based makeup removers and waterproof mascara, to sleep on their back or with a lash-friendly pillow if possible, and to book fills every 2–3 weeks. Selling aftercare at checkout protects your work and adds margin to every appointment.
